townCryer

Every headline in town, cried in one place.

townCryer gathers the news from your town's papers, TV stations, city hall and community forums into one list. No accounts, no comments, no articles copied. Just the headline, who published it, and a link to read it there.

We're starting in Central Oregon, getting a few towns right before adding more.

How it works

  1. 1We watch every source

Each town's newsrooms, government sites and community feeds are checked every few minutes. Busy sources get checked more often, quiet ones less.

  2. 2We keep only the news

An AI reads each headline and drops questions, buy-and-sell posts, lost pets and stories about other places. When it isn't sure, a person decides.

  3. 3We send you to the source

Every headline links to the publisher's own site in a new tab. They wrote it, so they get the visit.

Topics

Each headline is sorted into a topic so you can narrow the feed. A story can fit two, like a safety story at a school.

Emergency
Straight from fire, police, sheriff, 911 and emergency management
Safety
Crime, police, courts, fire, emergencies, accidents
Government
City council, county, state agencies, elections, politics, taxes, public meetings
Schools
K-12 schools, school districts, colleges, students, teachers
Roads & weather
Traffic, road work, closures, transit, weather, wildfire smoke, snow
Business
Local businesses, openings and closings, jobs, housing, real estate, development
Events
Things to do: festivals, concerts, arts, food and drink, public events
Sports
Games, teams, athletes, prep (high school) sports, college and pro sports, schedules and scores
Opinion
Editorials, columns, letters to the editor, guest commentary, cartoons
Community
People, nonprofits, health, environment, history, and everything else

What we don't do

  • No copied articles. You see the headline, the source and the time. The story stays on the publisher's site.
  • No accounts or tracking. Open the site and read. There's nothing to sign up for.
  • No comments or posting. It's a feed of what's been published, not another place to argue.
  • No images. Headlines only, so pages load fast on any connection.

For publishers

Our crawler reads only the feeds you already publish, follows robots.txt, and waits between requests to your site. It identifies itself as:
